“General Order No. 6” General Joseph Hooker, Written Orders and CDV
Head Quarters Hookers Brigade
Camp Union August 12, 1861
General Orders
No. 6
Until further orders the signal for service and roll call will be announced at the main guard of the brigade at the following named time.
??? At 5’O Clock A.M.
Drill at 5 ½
Breakfast at 7
Drill at 7 ½
Surgeons Call at 9
Guard ?? At 12 M
Drill at 5 PM
Evening parade at Sunset
?? At 9’O Clock P.M.
Camp Time will accutained at the main guard.
The chaplains of the brigade having expressed a willingness to assume the charge of the postal duties pertaining to their respective regiments, are charged with them.
A wagon will be furnished to take the mail to and from the office at 10’O Clock A.M. daily.
Commanding of companies will furnish headquarters consolidating returns of the regiment at 11 O’Clock daily.
Divine service will be performed on the sabbath at 10’O Clock A.M. and likewise on week days, immediately after evening parade, Regiments being thrown into a square for that purpose.
The bands and field music will practice at the hours prescribed for drill
Passes will be considered if handed in before the hours of 10 & 11 O’Clock A.M.
No officers non-commissioned or private will be exempt, from duty unless so reported by the regimental surgeon- All regimental and company officers will be present at all roll calls, and will be made responsible for the enforcement of as much of the forgoing orders as pirating to their command.

This document would have been written out following the orders given by a General and in this occasion that general is Joseph Hooker. I do not believe this is his signature but it may have been an aid to camp or a secretary that signed in place of him. I do find it interesting that the brigade is referred to as Hookers Brigade as that is rare to see in most of his General Orders. Civil War era CDV of General Hooker is also included for a lovely grouping.
