Austrian Model 1854 Lorenz Rifle’s *Confederate Sights*
This is a great example of an Austrian M-1854 Lorenz Musket. This type of rifle was heavily used by Union and Confederate soldiers alike. They were lighter than the average model 1861 Springfield, and they were easy to obtain through import. This is evidenced by the Union importing a reported 250,000 to the Confederacy’s 100,000 or more. This specific rifle was likely Confederate due to it having traditional Confederate block sights. This rifle has beautiful hardware, a nice stamping on the lock-plate, and even has what could be the soldier’s initials carved into the stock. This piece would make a great addition to any Civil War gun collection.
