Original Civil War U.S. Model 1842 Musket Lock Plate & Hammer – Dug Relic – Bridgeport, Alabama

$75.00

Offered is an original U.S. Model 1842 percussion musket lock plate and hammer assembly, recovered from a Civil War skirmish site near Bridgeport, Alabama.

The Model 1842 was the first standard U.S. military musket manufactured with a percussion ignition system and was widely used by both Union and Confederate forces during the American Civil War.

This substantial battlefield relic retains its original percussion hammer, elongated iron lock plate, and portions of the internal lock mechanism. Faint markings remain visible beneath the hammer, although extensive oxidation has obscured much of the lettering.

The lock exhibits heavy iron oxidation, deep pitting, and an attractive dark battlefield-relic patina from its time underground.

Bridgeport, Alabama, was an important strategic location during the Civil War because of its Tennessee River crossing and railroad connections. Military operations throughout the region made the surrounding area an active location during the conflict.

The relic retains its accompanying identification note documenting recovery from a skirmish site near Bridgeport, Alabama.

Condition: Original dug condition with extensive corrosion, pitting, and surface oxidation. The percussion hammer and portions of the internal mechanism remain present. Offered strictly as a historical battlefield relic.

An excellent piece of Civil War firearm history, particularly appealing to collectors of U.S. Model 1842 muskets, excavated military artifacts, and Alabama battlefield relics.

Shipping included to the lower 48 contiguous United States.
