Offered is an original World War I-era American patriotic memorial plaque featuring the dramatic “America Over the Top” design.
The shield-shaped plaque depicts a U.S. doughboy charging forward with rifle in hand beneath the word “LIBERTY.” The central inscription reads “AMERICA OVER THE TOP,” surrounded by patriotic imagery including stars and flaming torches.
The phrase “Over the Top” became one of the defining expressions of World War I, referring to soldiers leaving the protection of their trenches and advancing into battle. Similar “America Over the Top” designs were used on WWI memorials and grave markers honoring American servicemen.
This example retains strong raised detail throughout the soldier, lettering, stars, and decorative border. The surface displays an attractive aged bronze-toned patina with scattered oxidation and wear consistent with age.
The reverse is plain and shows evidence of age and mounting wear, suggesting the plaque may originally have been attached to a memorial, grave marker, or display.
Condition: Very good original condition with age-related patina, surface wear, oxidation, and minor edge irregularities. The relief remains sharp and visually impressive. Please examine all photographs carefully.
A striking piece of World War I American patriotic history and an excellent display item for collectors of Doughboy memorabilia, WWI memorials, and early 20th-century military artifacts.
Shipping included to the lower 48 contiguous United States.
