Original Indian Wars U.S. Cavalry & Army Relic Grouping – Camp Sheridan, Nebraska
Offered is an excellent grouping of seven original Indian Wars-era U.S. Army relics recovered from the historic Camp Sheridan site near Ogallala, Nebraska.
This grouping includes two U.S. military eagle buttons, one being a smaller U.S. Cavalry cuff button, two three-ring lead bullets, and three excavated brass cartridge casings of varying sizes. The cavalry cuff button is a particularly interesting addition, providing a connection to the mounted troops who served on the American frontier.
Camp Sheridan was a frontier military post associated with the Indian Wars and the westward expansion of the United States Army during the late 19th century. Cavalry units played an important role in frontier military operations, including patrols, reconnaissance, and protection of settlements and transportation routes.
All seven relics display attractive excavated patina, oxidation, and surface wear consistent with prolonged burial. Both military buttons retain visible eagle designs, while the ammunition relics exhibit characteristic age and ground conditions.
Provenance: Accompanied by a handwritten note identifying the recovery location as Camp Sheridan, Nebraska, and the finder as Brian Schilz of Ogallala, Nebraska. The note also records a previous purchase in August 2017.
A desirable grouping of Indian Wars-era military artifacts, made especially appealing by the inclusion of a U.S. Cavalry cuff button and its documented recovery location. An excellent addition to any collection of American frontier, Indian Wars, or U.S. Cavalry militaria.
Condition: Original excavated condition with natural patina, oxidation, and age-related wear. Please refer to photographs for details.
