Pvt. Stephen Meade “Burial of a soldier”

$80.00

Stephen Meade was a soldier in 141st New York Regiment Company A, and in this letter, he is talking about the burial of a fellow soldier from his company.

He mentions the soldier has died (which from research looks like it might be Dewitt Primer) and that he has been appointed to bury this soldier.

In the middle of this burial he poses the question, “who will be the next?” This foreshadows the events that would follow at Peach Tree Creek, where Meade would be struck by a bullet/shell and later die from his wounds.

I have printed out a firsthand account of how Stephen Meade passed as well as a copy of his index card. This would make for an amazing story or display in any collection.
